All About the Boxes

Moving Day is just around the corner and you need boxes.

First on your list is to post on Facebook, asking all of your friends if they have extra boxes you can use. When nobody replies for ten minutes, you begin to panic, so you head to the local grocery store to ask them. The only problem with that? Those boxes smell enticing to things like rodents and bugs.

So, now you need fresh boxes. Clean boxes. Boxes that will not fall apart. With the tune of Mighty Mouse in your head, you remember that StorageMart is just down the street and they sell moving boxes.

Off you go. As you gaze around the office, you’re amazed at the supplies available: wrapping paper, bubble wrap, mattress and couch covers, and the ever-coveted boxes.

But, where do you begin?

First, it’s important to note that all StorageMart boxes have handles to make it easier to carry, whether light or heavy.

Small boxes are perfect for books, movies and CDs. Some of our customers have even used them for paperwork, like tax records.

Medium is perfect for kitchen items like glasses, pots, pans, and utensils. You can even use this box for your hand or power tools. Some people even keep small keepsakes like their kid’s first pair of shoes, blankets, or small toys.

Large boxes are for towels, sheets, blankets, larger items like a kitchen mixer and larger toys.

Extra Large is for everything else that won’t fit in the smaller boxes. Some StorageMart locations even sell large boxes for televisions and mirrors. We even carry wardrobe, dish-pack, and file boxes.

Allow me to give you one piece of advice, though: don’t overfill your boxes. The more you put in, the heavier the box is going to be and if you must carry it up two flights of stairs at your new place, you should ask yourself if it’s worth a visit to your local chiropractor or massage therapist. Many people (including myself) say to themselves they can handle it, but we quickly learn that even the strongest person in the world struggles with heavy objects.

Quick Tip

To make moving day easier, my wife and I came up with a simple solution. We invested in colored paper. Each room or area was designated a color so that same color of paper went on each box. Then we didn’t have to give too much direction to the movers who were helping us. I’m not saying this works for everyone, but it sure saved a lot of time and, eventually, money too.

With boxes, you will want to invest in some quality tape. Thick mil tape is perfect for boxes, as it will save you time from having to place two to three strips on the top and bottom of each box. StorageMart offers a great variety and sizes of tape at incredibly low prices. Two of our best deals are the tape gun with a free roll of tape and the 3-pack of tape which is generally cheaper than two individual rolls of tape.

If you can’t figure out just what you need or how much you need, our experts are ready to help and answer any questions you may have.

But, don’t just come for the boxes. As I mentioned earlier, we also sell a wide variety of bubble wrap, wrapping paper, plastic covers, and much more. And, with the service you’ll receive, you’ll be glad you stopped by.

Now, if you can just get that Mighty Mouse tune out of your head….
