Closet Organization Ideas
Your closet can either be a place for dress shirts, seasonal clothing, and extra shoes. Or it can be packed full and whenever you open the door there’s a chance you’ll get crushed by an avalanche of clothes. As storage experts, we are here to help organize your closet so there are no more avalanches in the future.
Obviously not all closets are made equal, but we will lay out some general tips and suggestions on how to make the most out of your closet space.
Shoe and Clothing Storage
The best option for shoe storage is either a hanging organizer that hangs on the back or front of your closet door, or a cube organizer. For those with minimal closet space, the hanging organizer is your best bet. It will leave more room for clothes hangers and storage bins and can fit ten to fifteen pairs of shoes.
Storage bins are another great organizer if you have shelves, or space on the floor to put them. You can use a cube shoe organizer and then use bins on the shelves. Anything from extra socks, ties, or clothing can be stored in the bins.
Everyone uses clothes hangers for their dress shirts and winter coats, but if you have run out of hanger space, a perfect solution is using vacuum-sealed hanging bags. While these do not provide easy access, they are great for storing seasonal clothes you won’t be using for a while. Such as winter coats in the summer.
Making Room for More Closet Storage
If you’re finding some unwanted items or old clothing in your closet while organizing, there’s a few different things you can do. The obvious answer is to just throw it away, but it’s always best to reuse or recycle for others.
Whether you find clothes that don’t fit you anymore or a pair of jeans you’d hope you would grow into by now, please consider donating rather than throwing them away. Even if they sit in the trunk of your car for months, it’s the thought that counts.
Ideas for Walk-In Closets
If you are lucky enough to have a walk-in closet, space is not much of an issue. However, there are still some things you can do to improve the organization and ease of access to your clothing and shoes.
Instead of having to purchase bins or install shelving, there should be storage areas already available. You can strategically organize your closet to have the clothes you wear most often hung up and ready to go, and store seasonal clothes on the shelves and in bins. Or to make your life easier, if your closet is big enough, you can move your dresser into it and have all your clothing in one place.
If you just moved into a new home, or just want to freshen up your closet, there are two different routes to take. First is that you could take on the DIY project yourself and remodel your closet on a budget. Or you could hire a company like California Closets that specialize in remodeling.
