Best Vacation Spots in Calgary

It’s easy to think of Calgary as a winter destination, thanks to the 1988 Winter Olympics. But the city also shines in the summer. Here are 10 places to check out on your next trip.

Calaway Park

Thirty-two family-friendly rides make this park western Canada’s largest outdoor amusement park. You’ll also find funnel cakes, cotton candy, live shows and street performers like stilt walkers.

Skyline Luge Calgary

With more than 50 twists and turns and covering a distance of more than a mile, the Skyline Luge in Calgary is the longest in the world.

The Calgary Zoo

One of Canada’s largest zoos, the Calgary Zoo has more than 1,400 animals in natural settings. Don’t miss Destination Africa, which features the largest indoor hippo immersion habitat in North America.

Village Ice Cream

The owner of this Calgary ice cream shop famously found his way over a pint of huckleberry ice cream. Today, his shop has four locations—and delicious flavors like maple pecan, melted chocolate, toasted coconut, and salted caramel.

Studio Bell

Studio Bell is home to the National Music Center, which opened in 2016 with the goal of showcasing Canadian music. Inductees to the Canadian Hall of Fame include the Barenaked Ladies (2018), Sarah McLachlan (2017), Alanis Morissette (2016), Loverboy (2009) and Bryan Adams (2006).

Jelly Modern Doughnuts

This place calls itself “Canada’s original gourmet doughnut bakery café” and we believe it. How about a Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla? Or Maple Bacon? No worries if you have the kids with you. They’ll love the Whoopie Pie and Smarties Doughnuts.

The Hangar Flight Museum

This high-flying museum keeps things lively by using stories to cultivate appreciation for the airplanes and helicopters in the collection—and the men and women who designed and flew them.

Bow Habitat Station

Learn about Alberta’s natural environment at this interpretive wetland, which showcases aquatic habitats found throughout Alberta’s streams, marshes, ponds, and rivers, plus the wildlife and plant species found there.

Heritage Park Historical Village

One of North America’s largest living history museums, Heritage Park has exhibits that span from the early 1860s fur trade to the petroleum and automobile-dominated 1950s. The mission? To preserve the history of the early West and to educate and entertain guests of all ages for many generations to come.
