For the second straight year, StorageMart participated in a donated shoe drive. Those shoes were then lined up outside the Missouri State Capitol to create a visual in support of bringing greater awareness to the children living in foster care in Missouri.
May is Foster Care Awareness Month. To help bring awareness to the needs of Missouri foster children, StorageMart partnered with the Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association (CMFCAA) to collect more than 7,400 pairs of shoes. These shoes were then lined up in front of the State Capitol to represent the thousands of children currently living in foster care in Missouri.
Many Shoes Donated
The total number of shoes substantially eclipsed the 4,800 pairs collected in 2014.
“We were thrilled by the support of our community and all the volunteers who helped make Shoe In for Foster Care such a successful event,” StorageMart Marketing Director Sarah Little said. “We’re proud to partner with great organizations like CMFCAA and we wish them nothing but the best in all the work they do to advance their mission of helping Missouri’s foster children.”
Following the display of the shoes, they were then bagged up and donated to Hope for Caribbean Kids, a non-profit organization that sells donated shoes to help fund the building of schools and clean water systems in Haiti.
Shoe In for Foster Care is just one example of StorageMart partnering with non-profit organizations in the markets it calls home. Other aspects of StorageMart Gives include the sponsorship of sports teams and various fundraising events, donation of storage space to organizations in need of storage and monetary donations via Charity Storage to various groups with missions ranging from promoting adult literacy to animal welfare to a women’s shelter to Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity.
